Niseko Avalanche Info No7

Moiwa Mountain Base 6.00am: -8°, 3cm of new snow in the last 12hrs, 600m light wind snow, poor visibility, snow drift and cornice development. Coastal data: Benkei Cape:WNW16m/s. Kamui Cape WNW12m/s, 1018hPa, wave 1.8m. Hirafu 1000m: -14.1°. Hanazono 3 elev 720m: -10.9°, W3.7m/s

We are currently in a winter weather pattern, the atmospheric pressure gradiant is a bit steeper and a strong snow wind is blowing above 800m. The avalanche risk on the leeward side of knolls and cornice slopes above 800m is high throughout the day due to the snowdrift/cornice development and the snowfall trend. Visibility is also poor, dont accidently trigger a slope. Avalanches are predicted to fracture on the 23rd Dec layer at a depth of 50cm.

During times of snowdrift growth, they can easily collapse on weak layers which can trigger a surface avalanche. The snow on the groomers is good again. Visibility is poor, be careful reading the snow surface or going too fast. Watch out for frostbite, its cold. Please listen to the patrols directions. Have a good day.
