風は弱まり始めたが始めたが標高800m以上は依然弱い風雪が続きふきだまりが発達、発達速度は低下。15m以上の風でふきだまりが発達し続けている午前中の雪崩リスクは高い。事故防止のため各トップゲートは閉じられる。我慢を。雪が安定すれば再びコース外を滑れる。ロープをくぐらないこと。立ち入り禁止区域には絶対に入らないこと。春の滝や湯の沢、アンベツでは降雪推移から破断面100cmの雪崩が起こる可能性があり非常に危険。嵐が作ったスラブの安定を待つこと。ビーコンは飾りではない。あれば仲間の命を救える。持つことを強く勧める。観測から雪は狂喜乱舞するほど良い。ニセコは滑走者の自由を尊重するがその安全を心配している。ニセコルールの尊重を。周辺の山でもリスクは同じようにある。森の中の雪は良いが今日は開けた急な谷や雪庇斜面の滑走を控えたほうが良い。

The winds have begun to drop. Above 800m, there is continued snowdrift development from the wind and snow, however the rate of development is slowing. Winds of over 15m/s have caused a HIGH avalanche risk this morning, and snowdrifts are continuing to develop. All top gates will be closed to prevent accidents. Be patient. Once the snow stabilizes, you can ski off-piste again. Do not duck ropes. Never enter restricted areas. The snowfall pattern at Haru no Taki, Yunosawa, and Anbetsu presents a HIGH risk of avalanches with 100cm fractures. Wait for the storm slabs to stabilize. Beacons are not just for decoration; having one can save the lives of your teammates. We strongly recommend having one. Observations show the snow is so good it’s ecstatic. Niseko respects the freedom of skiers, but is concerned about their safety. Respect the Niseko rules. The surrounding mountains also pose similar risks. While the snow in the forests is fine, it’s best to avoid skiing in open, steep valleys and cornice slopes today.

午前3時に西風が強まり山は猛烈な吹雪、ふきだまりが急激に発達し、風下斜面の雪崩リスクは標高を問わず今後高まる。海上波高は4m以上になる見込み、今日のツアーはやめたほうが良い。またゲレンデから出ないほうが良い。新たなふきだまりが厚さ100cmを越えれば雪板(ふきだまり・風成雪スラブ)の重量増加による構造的脆弱性が原因で弱線破断しやすくなる。現在、モイワスキー場標高800m地点で防災科学研究所による研究と実験が行われている。協力するモイワスキー場に感謝するとともに、厳しい環境下での研究者の努力に敬意を表す。主なゲートは事故防止のため閉じられる。パトロールの目を盗みロープをくぐってコース外を滑ってはならない。今日は温泉にでも行ったほうが良い。交通事故と屋根からの落雪に注意。

Westerly winds strengthened at 3:00 AM, bringing a fierce snowstorm to the mountains. Snowdrifts are rapidly developing. The avalanche risk on leeward slopes is increasing at all elevations. Ocean wave heights are expected to exceed 4m. It is recommended to cancel today’s tour. It is also recommended to stay off the slopes today. If new snowdrifts exceed 100cm in thickness, the increased weight of the snow plates (snowdrifts and wind snow slabs)will make them susceptible to weak line fractures due to structural weaknesses. Currently, research and experiments are being conducted by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention at Moiwa Ski Resort @ 800m. We are grateful to Moiwa Ski Resort for their cooperation, and we respect the efforts of the researchers in such a harsh environment. Main gates will be closed to prevent accidents. Do not sneak past patrol and duck ropes to ski off the course. It might be a good idea to go to a hot spring today. Be careful of traffic accidents and snow falling from roofs.

低気圧前面で気圧の傾きなく海上、山ともに穏やか。降雪なし。朝の観測とデータ評価から雪崩リスクは低い。雪を求めて立ち入り禁止区域アンベツ、春の滝、湯の沢に入ってはならない。もし見かけたら注意を。またニセコルールの説明を。低気圧の接近に伴い午後から南風が強まり夜半には西寄りの暴風雪となってふきだまりが発達し雪崩リスクが急激に高まる。発生予測は昨日の2月3-4日低気圧降雪層、風成雪スラブの急激な発達はそれ自体の自重増加が原因で弱線破断して雪崩を起こす。降雪推移に注意。ピットチェックを過信してはならない。明日以降しばらくは風下の谷にいてはならない。またスラブ化したふきだまり斜面を滑ってはならない。山は昨日のトラックで荒れているがゲレンデの圧雪は素晴らしく良い。暴走衝突に注意。ロープをくぐってはならない。ビーコンはオンか?

The pressure gradient is weak ahead of the low-pressure system; both the sea and the mountain weather is calm. No snowfall. Based on morning observations and data evaluation, the avalanche risk is low. Do not enter strictly prohibited areas such as Ambetsu, Haru-no-taki, and Yunosawa in search of snow. If you see someone doing so, please warn them of the risks they’re taking and explain the Niseko Rules. As the low-pressure system approaches, south winds will strengthen from the afternoon, turning into a westerly blizzard by midnight. Wind-carried snowdrift slabs will develop, and the avalanche risk will rise drastically. The predicted trigger layer is the low-pressure snowfall layer from Feb 3-4. The rapid development of wind-packed slabs causes fractures along lines of weakness within the snowpack due to their own increasing weight. Pay close attention to the snowfall transition. Do not over-rely on pit checks. Stay away from leeward gullies, as well as slopes of slabs of wind-affected snowdrifts for some time from tomorrow. The mountain is tracked out from yesterday, but the groomers are in excellent condition. Beware of out-of-control collisions. Do not duck the ropes. Is your beacon on?

低気圧前面で暖気流入し低気圧降雪が山系西側で15cm、標高800m以上は未明の強風で柔らかくスラブ化し雪面はリセット。観測から顕著なリスクはなく各ゲートは開けられる見込み、パトロールの指示に従うこと。立ち入り禁止区域アンベツに6番ゲートを越えて入ってはならない。ルールを無視する人がいる間は10番ゲートの復活はない。現在の低気圧降雪は次の風雪による風成雪スラブの下で雪崩発生面となる。降雪推移に注意すること。雪は浅いがまだ良い。視界不良、天候急変に注意。開けた急斜面では小麦粉のような低気圧降雪特有の浅い雪崩が出やすい。谷底にいてはならない。ビーコンはオンか?体調は万全か? 二日酔いはしていないか?　良い一日を。

Warm air is flowing in ahead of the low-pressure system, bringing 15cm of new snow to the western side of the mountain range. Above 800m, pre-dawn high winds have caused the snow to form soft slabs, resetting the surface. No significant risks were noticed during the morning observations and gates are expected to open. Follow the instructions of the ski patrol. Do not enter the Ambetsu strictly prohibited area by crossing past Gate 6. As long as there are people who ignore the rules, Gate 10 will not be reinstated. This current low-pressure snowfall will become a failure layer under the wind-affected snowdrift slabs brought by the next storm. Pay close attention to the snowfall transition. The snow is shallow but still good. Poor visibility, stay alert for sudden weather changes. On open steep slopes, shallow avalanches characteristic of low-pressure snowfall—powdery like flour—can easily occur. Do not stay put at the bottom of the gullies. Is your beacon on? ふきだまりの発達程度は弱いが場所により夜間の降雪がソフトスラブ化している。東尾根上部やバックボウル、大沢雪庇面など標高1000m以上の開けた急斜面では同時滑走を避け、雪庇下やノールを切らないこと。雪崩の引き金になる。雪は昨日より浅いがリセットされており悪くない。暴走、立ち木衝突に注意。天候急変に注意。

昨日午後、モイワ見返り尾根で体調不良のため一人が亡くなった。モイワパトロール、警察、消防が現場で蘇生を続けたが回復しなかった。救助にあたった人たちに感謝し、家族や友人にお悔やみを申し上げるとともに、亡くなられた方のご冥福をお祈りする。毎日、事故防止のためにこの情報を書き続けているが、時に虚しくなる。事故を他人事にしてはならない。

Isobars are wide; conditions at sea and on the mountain are calm. Winds peaked at 4 AM at Westerly 15m/s, then trended below 10m/s. Analysis of all data indicates the overall avalanche risk is low. Gates are expected to open from the morning; follow the ski patrol instructions. The development of wind slabs is weak, but in some areas, overnight snowfall has formed soft slabs. On open steep slopes above 1000m, such as the upper Higashi-one (East Ridge), Back Bowl, and the cornice faces of Osawa, avoid riding simultaneously and do not cut under cornices or over knolls, as it could trigger an avalanche. The snow is shallower than yesterday but has reset and is not bad. Watch out for out-of-control riding and collisions with trees. Be alert for sudden weather changes. 

Yesterday afternoon, one person passed away on the Moiwa Mikaeri Ridge due to a medical emergency. Moiwa Patrol, police and fire department officers performed resuscitation measures at the scene, but they could not be recovered. We express our gratitude to those who assisted in the rescue, offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends, and pray for the soul of the deceased. I continue to write this report every day to prevent accidents, but at times, it feels hollow. Never treat an accident as someone else’s problem.

中谷宇吉郎博士の言う通り雪は天からの贈り物であり私たちはその恩恵を受けている。しかし雪は変化する。風が吹けばふきだまりが発達し、雪崩の危険が高まる。ピットチェックを過信せず吹雪の風下側の危険を常識とすること。そうすれば事故を減らせる。ビーコンは持ったか? プローブやショベル、ショートロープはあるか? 非常食は? 自分のいる場所がわかるか? このスポーツに安全はない。今日の雪は素晴らしく良い。

Isobars are wide and coastal wave heights are decreasing. Winds peaked last night at 8 PM at 20m/s in the western areas at 1000m, then hovered around 10m/s until morning. Observations indicate that new wind slabs are stabilizing over time. The overall avalanche risk is low. All peak gates are expected to open. Follow the ski patrol instructions. The area outside the gates is not a ski resort. Do not enter strictly prohibited areas based on your own selfish logic. You will lose your lift pass. As the number of guests surges, a “whack-a-mole” game continues between the ski patrol and trespassers. Respect the Niseko Rules for the safety of yourself and your companions.

As Dr. Ukichiro Nakaya said, snow is a gift from heaven, and we receive its blessings. However, snow changes. When the wind blows, slabs develop and avalanche risk increases. Do not over-rely on pit checks. Consider the danger on the leeward side slopes during and just after a storm as common sense. Doing so will reduce accidents. Do you have your beacon? Do you have your probe, shovel, and short rope? Emergency food? Do you know where you are? There is no “safety” in this sport. The snow today is exceptionally good.

未明までふきだまりがゆっくりと発達、降雪わずか、風のピークは午前2時の15m/s、その後10m/s以下で推移、朝の観測でふきだまりは20cmでリセット、雪崩リスクは低い。各山頂ゲートは朝から開けられる。ニセコのコース外滑走はルール遵守を前提に認められている。ニセコルールは国が公式に認めたものではないが事故防止と滑走の自由を両立させるために設けられ、特に雪崩事故防止に成果を上げている。近年観光の活性化、多様化とともに客層が変化し、雪崩以外の遭難が多発している。事故防止と観光の持続的発展のために、スキー場のみならずホテルなど宿泊施設、飲食店に対してニセコルール普及のための取り組みの強化をあらためて強く求める。立ち入り禁止区域には絶対に入ってはならない。禁止区域はそこがただ危険だから設けられたのではない。山頂北斜面、東尾根、見返り沢などの滑走を認めるためのやむを得ない禁止指定であることをあらためて強調する。このスポーツに100パーセントの安全はない。安全を守るパトロールに敬意を。ビーコンはオンか?

Light snow overnight with slow snowdrift development into the early hours of the morning. Winds peaked at 15m/s at 2:00 AM, then remained below 10m/s. Morning observations showed snowdrifts had reset at 20cm, and the avalanche risk is low. All peak gates are expected to be open. Off-piste skiing in Niseko is permitted while Niseko Rules are followed. Although the Niseko Rules are not officially recognized by the government, they were established to balance accident prevention with your freedom to ski, and have been particularly effective in preventing avalanche accidents. In recent years tourism has become more active and diverse, and the customer base has changed which has caused a high number of accidents caused by reasons other than avalanches. In order to prevent accidents and promote the sustainable development of tourism, we once again strongly urge not only ski resorts but also hotels and other accommodation facilities and restaurants to strengthen their efforts to promote the Niseko Rules. Never enter restricted areas. Restricted areas were not established simply because they are dangerous. We emphasize once again that these are unavoidable prohibited areas to allow skiing on the northern slope of the peak, the east ridge, Mikaeri, and other areas. There is no such thing as 100% safety in this sport. We respect the patrol who ensure safety. Is your beacon on?

等圧線の幅は広いが西高東低の気圧配置の中で海上波高やや高く山は北寄りの弱い風雪、雪の量は少ない。破壊試験でスラブは圧密安定、全体の雪崩リスクは低い。各山頂ゲートは開けられる見込み、パトロールの意見をきき準備してコース外へでること。新雪を求めてロープをくぐり、立ち入り禁止区域春の滝、湯の沢およびアンベツ谷に入ってはならない。一人があとを付ければ他が真似てやがて事故が起る。ニセコはコース外の事故に無関心ではない。事故時には警察、消防と連携して迅速に救助活動にあたる。しかし重要なのは事故を起こさないことであり、そこには滑走者の自覚が強く求められている。怪我をすれば時に一生を棒に振る。常に用心を。それにしても事故が多い。あらためてニセコルールへの理解を強く求める。コース外は荒れている。暴走、立ち木衝突に注意。沢への転落に注意。水は冷たく木には勝てない。ビーコンはオンか?　良い一日を。雪はそのうちに降る。

The isobars are wide, a high pressure to the west and low to the east, ocean wave heights are slightly high and light northerly winds on the mountain are bringing a little snow. Destruction tests indicate that slabs are consolidated and stable, and the overall avalanche risk is low. Peak gates are expected to be open. Please listen to patrol and prepare before going out of bounds. Do not duck ropes in search of fresh snow and never enter the strictly off limits areas Haru no Taki, Yunosawa or Anbetsu Valley. 低圧帯の中で気圧の傾きゆるく海上、山ともに穏やか、降雪なし。試験及びデータ評価、リスク推移の検討から全体の雪崩リスクは低い。各山頂ゲートは開けられる。パトロールの意見を聞き準備してコース外へでること。雪を求めてロープをくぐり、立ち入り禁止区域を滑ってはならない。新たに立ち入りが禁止されたアンベツ谷に地図アプリを見て入ってはならない。

ニセコ雪崩情報は気象変化と降雪推移から雪崩リスクを量り、それを毎朝示している。この方法は従来広く行われてきた弱層理論のみに依拠する方法と根本的に異なる。表層雪崩が雪中の弱いところから起こるのは科学的真理だが、ここでは主に吹雪が作るふきだまりの発達推移から斜面と標高ごとの危険を予測し、事故防止に役立てている。

We are in a low-pressure zone, with a wide atmospheric gradient, and both the sea and the mountains are calm, with no snowfall. Based on tests, data evaluation, and risk trend analysis, the overall avalanche risk is low. All peak gates will open. Listen to the patrol’s advice and prepare before leaving the gates. Do not duck ropes and ride strictly off-limits areas to seek snow. Do not enter the recently restricted Anbetsu area by following map apps.

Niseko Avalanche Information assesses avalanche risk based on weather changes and snowfall trends, providing updates every morning. This approach fundamentally differs from the widely used method that relies solely on weak-layer theory. While it is a scientific truth that surface avalanches originate from weak points within the snowpack, here we primarily predict slope and elevation-specific hazards based on the development and progression of snowdrifts created by blizzards, aiding in accident prevention.

新たに立ち入り禁止区域に指定されたアンベツ谷に入ってはならない。地図アプリ等に滑走ラインが示されているためか昨日は30人以上が侵入し、その多くが注意を受けている。この禁止措置が死亡事故を防ぐためのやむを得ない措置であることを理解されたい。朝の観測とデータの検討から雪崩リスクは引き続き低い。雪崩は自然現象であり事故は人間が起こす。不可抗力の事故はなくそれぞれが用心すれば事故は防げる。雪崩事故の多くは吹雪など悪天候下で起こっている。風雪時の風下斜面は雪崩の巣であり、それを常識とすれば事故は減らせる。各ゲートは開けられる。パトロールの指示に従うこと。ここがスキー場であることを忘れないこと。ゲストは規則に従わなければならない。天候急変に注意。良い一日を。

Do not enter the recently designated restricted area Anbetsu. Yesterday, over 30 people entered the area, likely because ski lines are shown on map apps, and many received warnings. Please understand that this restriction is an unavoidable measure to prevent fatal accidents. Based on morning observations and data review, the general avalanche risk remains low. Avalanches are natural phenomena; accidents are caused by humans. There are no accidents due to force majeure; accidents can be prevented if everyone exercises caution. Most avalanche accidents occur during blizzards or other severe weather. Leeward slopes during snowstorms are avalanche nests; recognizing this as common sense can reduce accidents.
