Winds peaked at 4am and have dropped to below 15m/s since. Only light snow overnight, but it has reset above 700m. At 1000m there was rapid cornice and  snowdrift development, expect fractures at 50cm. On the west wall of Kozen no Sawa(BackBowl) cornices are prone to break and cause small avalanches . Avoid skiing this area first thing in the morning. Avalanches are dangerous, regardless of size. Do not ski under cornices or cut knolls. This could easily trigger an avalanche. Do not wait around in the valley bottom. Avalanches come from above and follow the valleys down. Lower slopes are still heavily covered in bushes, limiting available lines and exits. Watch out for collisions. Yesterday, over 1000 people skied outside the gates, but no accidents were reported. We thank everyone for following the rules. The gates are scheduled to open. Follow patrol instructions. Outside the gates is not part of the ski resort. Niseko allows off-piste skiing but is also concerned about the safety of its visitors. Overconfidence leads to accidents. This sport is dangerous. Always be vigilant. Guides and leaders have a great responsibility. Is your beacon on? Have a nice day.

Having these tools increases the chances of saving not only your life but also the lives of your friends in the event of an emergency. These tools are not a fashion accessory. Do not enter the BackBowl creek lightly, there is still the risk of avalanches on the SE face above 1,000 meters. Never enter the Strictly Off Limits area Haru no Taki. The snow is turning into slabs, and there is a possibility of 100cm avalanches. Moiwa Gate 10, site of frequent accidents, will be closed for the time being due to the high risk of beginners falling into the Anbetsu River. Outside the gates is not part of the ski resort. Niseko allows off-piste skiing under the Niseko Rules, but is always concerned about the safety of its visitors. There is no safety in this sport. Overconfidence and carelessness lead to accidents.

Hirafu Hanazono 800m: -13℃, NNE3.9m/s Coastal data: Benkei Cape NNW10m/s, Kamui Cape N13m/s, 1007hPa, 3.5m waves.

The typical winter pressure pattern continues, with strong winds and snow from the west. Significant wind-driven snowdrift development at 1000m and observations indicate a tendency to fracture on weak layers. The fracture caused by structural weakness in the snowdrift, not a fracture from a known weak layer. This type of avalanche occurs from wind and snow accompanied by heavy snowfall. Today, the avalanche risk is HIGH above 1,000 meters, including Osawa cornice slope, the entire Back Bowl, and the East Ridge. Harutaki is extremely dangerous due to the surface slabbing from the sun. Remember the 1998 accident?

The peak gate is scheduled to open on the 3rd. Below is a comment from Hirafu Team Leader Kanazawa: “The snow depth is half of the usual amount and trees, holes and rocks are not covered in. The track toward the East Ridge is untouched and difficult to walk on. Snowshoes and skins are essential. Do not leave the resort without them. You will not be able to get back. Going without them is insane. Be careful of injuries, accidents, and getting lost. The snow is very good but deep. Patrols are concerned about accidents.” Have a nice day.

Winter-type pressure pattern, narrow isobars over the sea and mountains with wind and snow. Significant snow accumulation; wind-drifted snow exceeding 100cm is developing on the upper slopes of leeward cornices. Consolidation cannot keep up with accumulation, leading to fractures along internal weak lines within the snowslabs. This could create fracture surfaces exceeding 50cm, making surface avalanches highly likely. Avalanche risk is high. Do not enter the following restricted areas: Yunosawa, Harunotaki, Annupuri Osawa at 1000m elevation on the cornice slopes, Kōzan-no-sawa, and the upper slopes of the Higashi-One. Do not duck ropes when you go out of bounds.

This snowfall will flatten the grass and restore Niseko to its usual state. Today’s snow is like a New Year’s gift, but don’t be greedy. Once the storm passes and wind-drifted snow stabilizes in a layered structure, the mountain summit gates will open. Follow patrol instructions. Depending on local weather conditions, the No. 6 Moiwa Gate is scheduled to open for limited hours, 10am-12pm today. Gullies are still uncovered, and the bush is thick. Snow is deep. Listen to the patrol’s advice. It’s best to carry a beacon. Niseko respects the freedom to ski out of bounds, but we are always concerned for your safety. Overconfidence and ignorance cause accidents. Today, you can enjoy yourself fully even around the groomed slopes. Do not push too hard. Beware of frostbite. Happy New Year.

We are currently under a winter pressure pattern. Sea swells are around 3m, and westerly winds are blowing at approximately 10m/s above 1000m elevation. While the snow clouds are thin and snowfall is light, wind slabs are slowly developing and consolidating. Cornices can fracture instantly, but based on our observations and data evaluation, the overall avalanche risk remains low. The groomed runs are in fair condition, but the snow cover is thin. Please watch out for bumps and uneven terrain. The resort is crowded, be careful to remain under control. Do not duck the ropes for the small amount of fresh snow at the side of the course; you may get stuck in the brush and be unable to return. While we aimed to open out-of-bounds skiing by the end of the year, current conditions make this difficult. The lack of snow makes rescue operations extremely difficult. We ask for your understanding and cooperation with the Niseko Rules.

This information is issued to prevent accidents for all resort users. Niseko respects the freedom of out-of-bounds skiing and manages the Niseko Rules accordingly. Please understand and respect these rules. The snow will come eventually. Have a Happy New Year.

Consequently, fog is present on the eastern slopes below 800m, while visibility remains good above 1000m. Based on our observations and data evaluation, the avalanche risk is low. Course conditions above 800m remain good due to sustained sub-zero temperatures. However, below 600m, where the temperature went above freezing level, the groomed surface has frozen, leaving the terrain rough with ice chunks in places. Please ski with caution.

A winter pressure pattern is bringing wind and snow to the sea and mountains. Wind strength varied through yesterday and the snowdrift compaction structure is unstable in some areas. On SE slopes and cornices above 1,000 meters, there is a possibility of a 50cm surface avalanche due to weak layers fracturing. Even if the wind dies down, avoid skiing on open, steep slopes with large elevation changes in the morning. Approximately 20cm of Niseko-style snow with moderate moisture and bounce has accumulated. Observations and data indicate that the overall avalanche risk is low. Avalanches are natural phenomena and can occur at any time if the conditions are right. But if no one gets caught in one, there is no accident. Always be on guard.

Discussions regarding gate opening and closing are continuing, but there is still a lack of snow, making rapid rescue operations difficult. Off-piste skiing is at your own risk, but the local community enforces the Niseko Rules out of concern for the safety of visitors. Please understand and respect the rules. Today is warmer than yesterday. There may even be some sunshine. Have a nice day.

However if the isobars narrow again, expect wind and snow to strengthen. From observation, snowfall trends, and data, it appears that snowdrifts (wind-driven snow slabs) are stabilizing and the avalanche risk is beginning to decrease. However, we need to wait until the wind dies down and the slabs are able to consolidate and stabilise before disturbing them. The snow is excellent, but it is still thin. Be careful of hitting trees along the trails. You can’t beat trees. Patrol is worried about injuries. The slopes are starting to look good. There are a lot of people, so please ski safely. There is no safety in this sport. Please be considerate of others and ski safely. Cutting in line on the lifts calls into question your dignity. Please respect ski resort regulations and the Niseko Rules. It will be a while before the gates are able open. Please listen to the patrol’s advice. It’s cold today. Be careful of frostbite. Have a nice day.

Heavy blizzard conditions and a little snow into the early hours brought some minor snowdrift development to the base of the mountain. Observations and data indicate a strong northerly wind with rapid cornice and snowdrift development higher on the mountain . Blizzard strength is fluctuating and slab development is not uniform. Tests indicate this wind slab is prone to fracture on weak layers from impact. The avalanche risk today is HIGH. Surface avalanches are likely to occur on steep slopes beside the trails where snowdrifts exceed 80cm. Do not thoughtlessly duck ropes beside the trails in search of fresh snow. The sudden drop in temperature and lack of snow have left the slopes in poor condition. There are many trees, rocks, bushes, and people. Be careful of collisions. Off-trail skiing from the ski resort is not yet possible. We are also having trouble, so please be patient for a while. If the wind shifts to the west, expect increased snowfall. Keep an eye on the snowfall trends. There is no 100% safety in this sport. Be careful of frostbite and slipping on the road. Have a nice day.
